About Frank Perez

I’m running for city council because of a woman named Elizabeth. Years ago, I knocked on Elizabeth’s door as part of an outreach program I was managing for the City of Reno. The purpose of the program was to help neighbors deal with blighted property. Elizabeth’s house was that house: overgrown weeds and trees, trash, peeling and chipped paint, smell of garbage that extended out beyond the crumbling fence. Elizabeth was elderly and when her husband passed away, she wasn’t able to keep up with the maintenance of her home. The house had become a neighborhood blight, which was unfortunate because it was also along a main walking route for children from the nearby elementary and middle schools.

The program I was managing was a city project partnering with Habitat for Humanity, called the Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The purpose was to find houses like Elizabeth’s that could be cleaned up and improved to need less upkeep and change the whole face of neighborhoods. I jumped at the chance to work on this project when it was approved because I lived in these neighborhoods and I know how much one blighted property can affect everyone, and what an impact a small investment from the city could mean to the community.

Fast forward to Elizabeth’s house. With changing out her landscaping to something easier and less expensive to maintain, repairing her fence and removing the trash, repairing and repainting the outside of her house, and involving her neighbors, we changed this neighborhood in a lasting way. Her property has stayed taken care of and in good condition to this day. This helps not just her but every family in that neighborhood to have that blighted property cleaned up, and to see the city investing in areas that often feel ignored.

I’m a big believer in our local government partnering and working with families and communities in this way… because city investment matters and our neighborhoods feel when the city invests in them.

I’ve dedicated my professional life to building stronger and safer neighborhoods. I started in college when I began organizing neighborhood clean ups. I continued when I took a position with the City of Reno’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program, and I’ve continued my mission for the last five years as a Code Compliance Officer.

I live Downtown with my wife and son, and I want to make sure my son grows up in a neighborhood he can take pride in. I’m confident that if we can work together, just like the neighborhood did for Elizabeth, we can ensure that every person is proud to call Reno home.

As a family, we enjoy going to the different festivals and events here in Reno such as the Balloon Races, Italian Festival, Greek Festival and Wingfest. I take great pride in being involved in my son’s education and sports. We also enjoy the beautiful Lake Tahoe!

Please help us create a stronger, cleaner, and safer Reno!
